Sound Healing
What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing is a therapeutic practice that uses sound vibrations to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This ancient practice harnesses the power of various sound frequencies and vibrations to restore balance and harmony within the body and mind. To achieve this effect, sound practitioners use instruments such as crystal and tibetan bowls, gongs, drums, chimes, and tuning forks, etc, as well as vocal toning and chanting.
Sound healing influences brain wave states by using specific frequencies and rhythms to guide the brain into different states of consciousness. For example, slower, deeper sounds, like those from gongs or singing bowls, can help shift the brain from active beta waves (associated with normal waking activity) to more relaxed alpha waves (linked to calm and meditative states). With continued exposure, the brain may even move into theta or delta waves, which are associated with deep relaxation, creativity, and healing.
The core principle behind sound healing is that everything in the universe, including our bodies, vibrates at a specific frequency. When these frequencies become disrupted or imbalanced, it can lead to stress, discomfort, or illness. By using sound to realign these frequencies, practitioners aim to facilitate healing, relaxation, and a sense of inner peace.
Sessions typically involve the participant lying down or sitting comfortably while the practitioner plays various instruments or uses their voice to create soothing, resonant sounds. These vibrations are believed to penetrate deep into the body, helping to release tension, promote relaxation, stimulate the body's natural healing processes, and enhance overall well-being.
Sound healing draws from a range of traditions and modern approaches, including ancient practices from indigenous cultures, Eastern philosophies, and contemporary research into the effects of sound on the human body. It is often used in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities to support a holistic approach to health and wellness.
Meet our Resident Sound Practitioner Nikki!
Hi, I’m Nikki, a passionate sound healer and lifelong music lover!
Music has always been my lifeblood. From a young age, I’ve been captivated by its power to transform my energy and elevate my state of being. Whether it’s the natural rhythms of the world or the human-made sounds that fill my speakers, I’ve always turned to music as a way to move energy, express emotion, or soothe my nervous system. For me, music is medicine.
In 2021, I completed my official sound training through ISound Institute, and since then, I’ve been exploring and experimenting with various instruments to deepen my practice.
Currently, I offer transformative weekly sound bath sessions at PC Yoga Collective, alongside breathwork guide Mads from Breathe to the Beat. I also provide off-site sound healing services, perfect for 1:1 sessions or group experiences. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the daily grind or a serene group retreat, I’m available for both intimate and large-scale events. I bring a calming, meditative atmosphere to retreats, corporate gatherings, and wellness events.
